An update for members: Commonwealth Ombudsman Inquiry into the Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits (DFRDB) Scheme
The subject inquiry will not be applicable to all Air Force Association members who are in a variety of Defence Force/Commonwealth superannuation schemes. Association records do not identify those who contributed and received benefits under the DFRDB Scheme. Consequently, please disregard this notice if the Scheme does not apply to you.
Attached are several documents issued by the Commonwealth Ombudsman’s Office. One is a Questionnaire DFRDB recipients are invited to submit. Please note the inquiry is based on commutation provided under the DFRDB Act. Submissions close on June 30th, 2019 and no late submissions will be accepted.
The Commonwealth Ombudsman has urged ex-Service Organisations to make their members aware of the inquiry and call for submissions. The Air Force Association supported the inquiry but has no additional information to submit over what the various campaign groups have or will submit. However, it will react to the inquiry’s findings and recommendations if it determines there is a perceived injustice. The Association encourages all applicable members to make submissions.
